Off theme posts in games

There's some code somewhere for staff accounts to be able to bury posts - and that's pretty easy, if the account has this flag, turn on that code, allow delete. Then you need to make that appear for accounts which don't have the flag, either if they own a group, or it's in a group where thread starter can moderate posts to their thread; and you probably need to be able to take that away from people who abuse it. And every time you pull up a thread you need some more complex logic to see if the viewer gets temporary admin rights.

There is a stock answer I've used "This feature would be beneficial, but not sufficient to justify the effort"

Other cases become far too blurred, though.  I'd agree, but with caution.

Threads like Post something similar, Gems among the randoms, and a few others, have a certain game element to them. They are good.

But most threads in games seem devoid of any game element to me.

At least your thread has a theme I suppose. Even harder to see as games are things like post your latest image, last loved etc.

I suppose "game" is a difficult word to define. But if I was moderator of the group there would be a huge cull. Or perhaps a bulk transfer to the love shack.

The original game (that I'm aware of) was initiated by Jodine on net-model, who created it as a little oasis of positivity when the forums on there were going through one of their toxic phases.

"Let's play a little game - mods and togs" I think was her name, and it was simply to "post your favourite image from the person before you".  The game here is of course that it encourages people to look at each other's portfolios and pick a "best" or "favourite".

That of course has been extended here to "post your favourite portrait", "post your favourite mono" etc, all from the previous poster, and then became "post your favourite" on some theme, but from your own portfolio.  In my mind, that cheapened the whole game idea, and although I dip into them occasionally just to look and even more occasionally to post, I get very few loves that way, as it's entirely self-selected by the image owner, so serves no better function that Recent Images or the shout box.

A bulk transfer of threads to some other group (blow your own trumpet, perhaps) would be awesome, but it'd still have the same issue that the OP is talking about here, which is that people will just post anything, regardless of the stated theme.
